IGP Olatunji Disu Disburses Over ₦2.43 Billion to Families of Fallen Police Officers
Abuja, March 18, 2026 — In a heartfelt ceremony at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, presented cheques totaling over ₦2.43 billion to 1,075 next of kin and families of police officers who died in active service across the country.
The initiative is part of the Force’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the welfare of officers and their families, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation. The payouts were made under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare schemes, covering outstanding insurance benefits accumulated over several years.
Addressing beneficiaries, IGP Disu expressed deep sympathy for the families, stressing that the gesture goes beyond monetary compensation. No amount of money can replace the loss of a loved one, but this is our way of recognising the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our fallen officers, he said.
The Force Insurance Officer, present at the ceremony, reiterated the commitment to efficiently processing insurance claims, urging insurance companies to ensure prompt settlements to prevent delays in future disbursements.
The IGP further announced plans to modernise administrative processes, incorporating digital systems to enhance transparency and speed in handling claims.
This significant disbursement marks a major step in addressing longstanding delays in settling the benefits of officers who died while performing their duties. Families expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the funds would go a long way in easing financial burdens.
