NO MOON, NO DELAY: Sultan Fixes Friday for Eid-el-Fitr Celebration Nationwide
The Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Friday as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr across Nigeria, following the non-sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.
The announcement, made in his capacity as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, came after reports were received from various moon-sighting committees and Islamic leaders across the country confirming that the crescent moon was not sighted on the 29th day of Ramadan.
With the absence of a verified moon sighting, Muslims in Nigeria are to complete 30 days of fasting, in accordance with Islamic tradition. This means that the holy month of Ramadan will officially conclude on Thursday, paving the way for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations on Friday.
The Sultan urged Muslims nationwide to continue their acts of worship, devotion, and charity as they round off the fasting period.
The Sultan of Sokoto holds a central role in Nigeria’s Islamic community, and his declaration serves as the authoritative confirmation for the commencement of Eid celebrations across the country.
