FRSC: Speeding Led to Anthony Joshua Road Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has identified excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the major causes of the road crash involving world-famous boxer Anthony Joshua along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

In an official statement on Monday, the Corps confirmed that the incident occurred on December 29, 2025, around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State. The crash involved a Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua and a stationary commercial truck parked by the roadside.

According to preliminary information from the FRSC Ogun Sector Command, the crash happened at about 12:00 p.m. and was immediately reported to authorities. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three minutes, carrying out rescue operations, evacuating victims, managing traffic, and preventing further incidents.

The vehicles involved were a black Lexus Jeep and a red Sinotruck with an unknown registration number. A total of five adult males were involved in the crash. Two persons were confirmed dead, one sustained injuries, and two others were unharmed.

Anthony Joshua survived the crash with minor injuries and was assisted by the rescue team. The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital, while the deceased were deposited at Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has been notified for further investigation and documentation.

The FRSC explained that the Lexus Jeep, believed to have been travelling above the approved speed limit, lost control while attempting to overtake, resulting in a collision with the stationary truck, which was said to have been properly parked.

The Corps emphasized that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking remain leading causes of fatal crashes across Nigerian highways. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, on behalf of the FRSC management and staff, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the injured victim a quick recovery.
