BREAKING: FG Approves N32 Billion for Health Facilities Under BHCPF

The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N32 billion to health facilities across Nigeria under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). The decision was taken following deliberations at the Ministerial Oversight Committee (MOC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, who also chairs the MOC, said the funds are part of the government’s effort to strengthen primary healthcare services nationwide.

The resources that the Federal Government is disbursing through the BHCPF are getting to the facilities, and we also approved the disbursement of N32 billion to the facilities, he said.

The funding is aimed at improving access to essential health services, particularly for vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, and rural communities. It will support health facilities in covering operational costs, procurement of medicines, and service delivery expenses.

Officials said the approval follows a review of key health indicators such as primary healthcare utilisation, immunisation coverage, and mortality rates related to preventable conditions. The oversight committee emphasised transparency and accountability in the disbursement process.

Health experts have welcomed the move, noting that it will help bridge critical financing gaps in Nigeria’s primary healthcare system, which has long struggled with underfunding.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to ongoing healthcare reforms under the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, promising sustained improvements in service delivery and healthcare outcomes across the country.
