NSCDC Busts Illegal Baby Factory in Lagos, Newborns Sold for Up to ₦1 Million

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered a suspected baby factory in Lagos State, exposing a disturbing child trafficking operation where newborns were allegedly sold for as much as ₦1 million.

The illegal facility, located in the Badagry area of Lagos, was raided after weeks of intelligence gathering by NSCDC operatives. During the operation, authorities arrested two suspects believed to be key operators of the syndicate.

Officials disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution as investigations continue.

At the scene, operatives rescued no fewer than 18 pregnant women and several children. The victims, mostly young women between the ages of 18 and 30, were reportedly held under controlled conditions within the facility.

They have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for proper care, rehabilitation, and further support.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to lure vulnerable women with promises of financial assistance.

Once recruited, the women were allegedly housed and monitored until they gave birth. After delivery, the babies were taken and sold to interested buyers, while the mothers were paid sums ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1.8 million.

Authorities noted that the operation was carefully structured, with some women reportedly encouraged to become pregnant specifically for the purpose of selling their babies.

Security officials described the discovery as a major breakthrough in the fight against human trafficking and illegal adoption networks in Nigeria.

They also warned that such criminal enterprises continue to exploit poverty and vulnerability, turning innocent children into commodities for profit.
