BREAKING: Kwankwaso Urges FG to Arm Military Fully to Crush Terrorists After Maiduguri Bloodshed
Abuja, Nigeria – March 18, 2026. Former Kano State Governor and presidential aspirant, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Federal Government to urgently empower the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism. His appeal comes in the wake of deadly attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed the lives of at least 23 people and left over 100 injured.
Kwankwaso, in a statement released on Saturday, described the attacks as a serious threat to national security and warned that Nigeria must not exhibit complacency in the face of resurgent terrorist activity. He emphasized the need for the government to provide adequate resources, intelligence, and operational support to the military, enabling them to take decisive action against terrorist groups.
It is imperative that our security forces are fully empowered and equipped to neutralize terrorists. The safety of Nigerians depends on decisive action, Kwankwaso said.
The former governor stressed that the recent bombings signal a dangerous return of insecurity in the North-East, highlighting the vulnerability of communities in Borno and surrounding states. He urged the Federal Government to act proactively and ensure that the military is capable of countering terrorist threats effectively.
The call for strengthened military operations comes amid growing concerns over attacks by Boko Haram and IS-affiliated groups in the North-East. The Maiduguri bombings have reignited national debates on the readiness and support of security agencies in tackling terrorism.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also reacted to the attacks, directing security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri and intensify operations against terrorists. The coordinated response aims to curb further attacks and reassure Nigerians of their safety.
