BREAKING: McDan Aviation Settles Rent Arrears, Challenges Ghana Airports Over Terminal Seizure

McDan Aviation Limited has announced that it has fully settled its outstanding rent obligations to Ghana Airports Company Limited following a dispute over the takeover of its terminal facility.

The company confirmed that although there was a temporary delay in meeting its financial obligations, the outstanding rent has now been paid in full. McDan Aviation described the earlier delay as a short-term issue and said it has since been resolved.

The development comes after officials of Ghana Airports Company Limited moved to take over the private aviation terminal operated by McDan Aviation at Kotoka International Airport.

The airport authority had earlier terminated McDan Aviation’s operating licence at the terminal, citing what it described as persistent failure to meet contractual obligations, including rent and other related fees.

Following the termination, GACL reportedly moved to secure the facility and assume control of the terminal operations.

However, McDan Aviation has strongly challenged the action, insisting that the takeover was premature and not in line with the terms of its agreement with the airport authority.

According to the company, the contract requires the airport authority to issue a 90-day notice before taking any steps to repossess the facility.

McDan Aviation further stated that the repossession occurred despite ongoing legal processes, including an injunction application filed in court.

The company alleged that officials entered the facility and removed some of its equipment during the takeover, describing the action as a breach of contractual procedure.

Management said it is reviewing the situation and may pursue legal action to protect its investment and ensure that due process is followed.

McDan Aviation emphasized that it has invested heavily in developing the terminal as part of efforts to expand private aviation services in Ghana.

The company noted that the facility was designed to provide specialized services for business jets and high-end aviation clients, helping to position Ghana as a growing hub for private aviation in West Africa.

Despite confirming that the outstanding rent has now been cleared, the dispute between the two parties appears far from resolved, with legal proceedings expected to determine the future of the terminal’s operations.
